St. Johns Virtual School Overview and Pacing Guide

St. Johns Virtual School has partnered with CyberActive to bring students the most comprehensive and engaging online driver education course in Florida.  Students who complete this course and pass the final exam with an 80% or higher will receive TLSAE (Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education) credit, which is required before applying for a learner’s permit.  Additionally, they will earn ½ elective credit and satisfy the online course requirement for graduation.  After competing this course and receiving TLSAE credit, students will then take the official DHSMV written permit test either at the DMV office, or the DMV is now offering the exam online.


This course will provide necessary knowledge, skills, and values required for safe driving. The material is comprehensive and in-depth, teaching standard rules and regulations by the Department of Motor Vehicles as well as effective strategies for defensive driving. By providing the best practices and proper etiquette, this course aims to increase safety and minimize risk for any new driver. The content included contains, but is not limited to, the following:


Procedures before driving
Driver preparation
Alcohol, drugs, and driving under the influence
Traffic controls: signals, signs, and markings
Basic operations of a vehicle
Expressway driving
Sharing the road
Preventing and handling accidents
Law and driving as a priviledge
Long-distance trips

Driver Education
Grade Level: 9-12 Length: 16-18 weeks
Pre-Requisites: Must be at least 14 and a half years old- 0.5 Credit
